Adam Schefter addresses Brian Thomas Jr. trade rumors

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. remains the subject of trade rumors. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter says don't buy them.

While hosting a special edition of "The Pat McAfee Show" on Tuesday, Schefter said the Jaguars have told him the WR isn't on the trading block.

Adam Schefter shares Brian Thomas Jr. update

"I've been told the Jaguars are not interested in trading him," Schefter said. "They denied it repeatedly. His name continues to come up in social media circles, floated out there, and for whatever reason, it doesn't go away. But every indication that I've gotten back is the Jaguars have no interest in moving on from Brian Thomas despite all the speculation that is out there."

Some of the speculation comes from credible sources. Connor Hughes of SNY reported Monday Jacksonville is "entertaining offers" for Thomas. So, have the Jaguars since changed their mind, or are they using Schefter to get another team to buy the bait and cough up a haul for the WR?

Why the Jaguars still may want to trade WR Brian Thomas

Thomas regressed in 2025 after making the Pro Bowl during his rookie season. The former LSU Tigers star logged 707 receiving yards and two touchdown catches in 14 regular-season games after totaling 1,282 and 10 in 17 games in 2024.

Drops became a massive problem as well. Per Pro Football Reference, he tied with WRs Jerry Jeudy (Cleveland Browns) and Amon-Ra St. Brown (Detroit Lions) for the second-most drops (10) in the league.

Plenty of Super Bowl contenders (Denver Broncos, New England Patriots) could use another WR. Still, they may not be willing to go above a certain price. Thus, Jacksonville leaked this information to Schefter. That could then convince them to give up more for the pass-catcher.

Or the Jaguars do believe Thomas will rebound in 2026. Jacksonville head coach Liam Coen insisted Thomas remains a part of the team's plans during his end-of-season news conference.

"When you are a part of a team that wins, the wealth will be shared," Coen said (h/t NFL Media's Cameron Wolfe). "It will never truly be about one player. I will pour into these guys... BT will 100% be part of that."

Jacksonville trading Thomas wouldn't be unwarranted, but whether it will do so remains to be seen.
