After mostly sitting out the first day of the NFL's legal tampering period, the Philadelphia Eagles finally made a big offseason splash on Tuesday with a much-needed addition to their secondary. They did so by adding a key member of the most recent Super Bowl champions.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Eagles reached an agreement with defensive back Riq Woolen on Tuesday on a one-year deal that could be worth as much as $15M.
Even though the Eagles finished the 2025 season ranked eighth in the NFL against the pass, they still had a big need for more depth in their secondary, and Woolen is a fantastic addition to help fix that. Especially on a one-year deal that has relatively little long-term (or short-term) risk.
Woolen was originally a fifth-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2022 and spent the first four years of his career with the team.

He quickly worked his way into a major role on their defense, starting 54 games over the past four seasons. During that time, he intercepted 12 passes, including a league-leading six during his rookie season.
He now joins an Eagles secondary that already has Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean as standout players. The deal cannot become official until the new league year begins on Wednesday.
The Eagles have lost a lot of talent off their defense in free agency so far this offseason, but Woolen at least brings in some help when it comes to pass coverage. They also have nine draft picks in the 2026 NFL Draft to help address the previous departures.
