Heat legend Dwyane Wade admits one surprise during Bam Adebayo's historic 83-point outburst

The Miami Heat rolled to their sixth straight win after blowing past the Washington Wizards 150-129 on Tuesday night. But the final score became an afterthought as Bam Adebayo put up 83 points in what turned into one of the wildest individual performances of the season.

Some called it one of the most impressive nights in NBA history, especially for a player known more for his all-around game than pure scoring. Others zeroed in on the 43 free throws he took to get there. Many also brought up the Wizards’ issues, pointing out Washington was missing Anthony Davis.

Whatever the case, the record book now has Adebayo sitting second on the single-game scoring list behind Wilt Chamberlain's legendary 100-point effort against the New York Knicks on March 2, 1962. Plenty of teams have faced the Wizards this season and plenty more will. But none have put together a night like this.

Dwyane Wade makes notable Bam Adebayo observation

Miami legend Dwyane Wade has come out to praise the three-time NBA All-Star. On a recent episode of his podcast "The Checkin'", Wade admitted one detail from the performance genuinely caught him off guard.

"I just watched the 4th quarter, and I was just sitting back and I was looking at Bam, and I was just like, 'Who is this dude?' Bro, I'm telling you, I've never seen Bam on attack like this. Sometimes, he has so many responsibilities on the basketball floor for the Heat, right? Like, he came into the league as a defender, as a pick and roll guy, to the basket."

"I've watched the evolution of Bam's progression, of his game. And it's been beautiful to watch a guy's progression that didn't come in with a label of a scorer or an offensive player."

Few people carry more weight in Miami than Wade, who most consider the franchise's greatest player. Across 15 seasons with the team, he won three NBA championships, grabbed a Finals MVP and made 13 All-Star teams. The organization put up a statue of him outside Kaseya Center.

So, when Wade talks up Adebayo, people listen. It means Adebayo has started to quiet the questions about his ability to carry the offensive load.

The connection between the two goes beyond just mutual respect. They played together for two seasons with the Heat and built a relationship Wade has compared to brothers.

That bond showed up again recently when Wade congratulated Adebayo for hitting 10,000 career points, making them the only two players in franchise history to reach that mark.
