After trading away Rashan Gary this week, the Green Bay Packers could look to pull off a blockbuster trade to acquire a prolific edge-rusher with a Super Bowl ring on his finger.
Given the uncertainty over the timeline for All-Pro pass-rusher Micah Parsons to return from his torn ACL suffered last December, and the fact that Green Bay does not own a pick in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft, general manager Brian Gutekunst and the Packers could turn to the trade market to fill a big void in new coordinator Jonathan Gannon’s front even.
According to Packer Report’s Easton Butler, Green Bay is one of the teams showing interest in edge rusher Josh Sweat, who reportedly wants out from the Arizona Cardinals, following Gannon’s dismissal as head coach.
“Cardinals EDGE Josh Sweat has requested a trade this week, per a source,” Butler writes. “The Packers and Eagles are both reportedly interested in him. Philly is trying to find another star on the DL, after losing Phillips to Carolina.”
Sweat, who won a Super Bowl with the Eagles back in 2024, and appeared in another in 2022 while playing for Gannon, who was then Philadelphia’s defensive coordinator, has 55 career sacks.
Trading for Sweat could reunite the veteran with a coordinator who knows how to maximize his potential and might just be the kind of significant upgrade on defense that the Packers suddenly find themselves in need of after a massive talent departure early in free agency.
