Brett Favre responds after Kyler Murray references his infamous play

Brett Favre responded Friday after new Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray brought up one of Favre’s most infamous plays after signing with the team.

Murray grew up a Vikings fan and said he “cried real tears” when Favre infamously threw an interception in the final moments of regulation in the 2009 NFC Championship with the team on the verge of field goal range. Instead of a potential game-winning kick and Super Bowl berth, the Vikings went on to lose in overtime.

Favre took notice of Murray’s comments and responded on X, calling it “the loss that hurts the most” from his career.

Murray probably wasn’t trying to make anyone relive one of the most brutal losses in Vikings franchise history, but that is what he wound up doing. Favre made his share of mistakes in his career, but it makes sense this one would stand out among the others.

Murray was quick to sign with Minnesota after being cut loose by the Arizona Cardinals. If he can lead the Vikings to even a conference championship, it would be one of the more remarkable turnarounds in league history, and the franchise could maybe start to move on from the ghosts of Favre.
