Vanderbilt player with NCAA's best name stars in upset win over Florida

Vanderbilt got a helping hand from a notable “Friend” during Saturday’s game.

The No. 22-ranked Commodores pulled off the impressive upset on Saturday against No. 4-ranked Florida in the SEC Tournament semifinal. Vanderbilt led from wire-to-wire at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., including taking a 13-point lead into halftime, and they went on to win by a convincing final score of 91-74.

Meanwhile, a standout for the Commodores was their guard named [checks notes] Chandler Bing. Against Florida on Saturday, Bing came off the bench and provided a spark with seven points, three rebounds, and a block in a modest 20 minutes of action.

One key moment came in the second half when Bing snagged an offensive rebound and threw up a wild putback shot that went in … plus the foul.

The freshman Bing is obviously named after the fictional character from the iconic sitcom “Friends.” Chandler Bing was the character in the show played by the late actor Matthew Perry.

As for Vanderbilt’s Bing, he was born in the late 2000s and clearly has parents who were fans of the NBC sitcom. Bing is averaging only 3.6 points and 1.5 rebounds over 14.1 minutes a game overall this season. But he is quickly putting himself on the map as the college basketball player with the best name since this viral star from last season.
