Darnell Mooney would be another strong addition for Giants' evolving WR room

After years of searching, the New York Giants might finally have their next franchise quarterback in Jaxson Dart. At the very least, he is a wildly intriguing player going into the second year of his career and should give the team's fans some reason for optimism. Finding a competent quarterback is a key part of the team-building process.

The other key part: Building a good team around that quarterback.

The Giants gave him a new head coach in John Harbaugh and now are working to rebuild the wide receiver room around him. They continued to do so on Saturday.

Darnell Mooney reportedly plans to sign with Giants

According to a report from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, free-agent wide receiver Darnell Mooney intends to sign with the Giants after his agents reached an agreement with the team.

Mooney was released by the Atlanta Falcons earlier this offseason following a two-year run with the team. He caught 96 passes for 1,435 yards with the Falcons, including 32 receptions for 443 yards during the 2025 season.

It would be the second wide receiver addition for the Giants this week, following the signing of former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Calvin Austin. They would join a wide receiver room that already includes Malik Nabers and Darius Slayton. Nabers is the obvious game-breaker and game-changer (when healthy).

The question is whether any of Slayton, Austin or Mooney can be a capable No. 2. Whether one of them is a prototypical No. 2 or not, they have at least given Dart a pretty good collection of speedy receivers to use. The Giants were a middle-of-the-pack team offensively in terms of points in 2025, and there should be an expectation of a step forward in 2026 given Dart's experience and the players he now has around him.
