At 41, LeBron James is still rewriting what is possible in year 23. He is putting up 21.3 points, 7.0 assists and 5.7 rebounds through 46 games with the Los Angeles Lakers, and those numbers keep fueling debates about how much longer he can keep this going.
The four-time champion is not slowing down, and neither are the Lakers. Saturday's 127-125 overtime win against the Denver Nuggets moved them to 42-25, third in the Western Conference. They have won five straight and eight of their last nine.
If the trio of LeBron James, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves maintains this level, and the supporting cast delivers, the Lakers could turn into a dangerous playoff matchup. But there is a bigger question hanging over everything.
What happens to LeBron after this season ends? NBA insider Shams Charania weighed in on Monday with his take on LeBron's future.
"LeBron hasn't made a decision on whether he's gonna continue to play. I think the feeling around LeBron James, around the league, is that he's gonna go at least one more season.”

For LeBron, the decision about year 24 probably depends on how this season wraps up. How the Lakers finish matters, but it is not just about wins and losses. His body will have a say after grinding through another long season, and so will the mental and emotional weight that comes with it.
All of that factors in when he finally sits down to figure out what's next. There was a play recently, against the Nuggets, that summed up where he's at right now. Late in a game, LeBron dove for a loose ball without hesitation. At 41, he is still throwing his body around and doing whatever it takes.

That kind of moment shows he is aware of who he is at this stage but hasn't changed his approach. Chemistry is another piece of the puzzle for the Lakers. LeBron James and Luka Doncic have looked sharp together at different points this season. Other stretches have shown Doncic thriving alongside Austin Reaves.
The rhythm between all three has been uneven, which raises a fair question heading into the playoffs. Can the three stars click together when it counts? Most people around the NBA think LeBron has hit the point where he naturally slides into a supporting role.
He is still capable of being the top guy and taking over when needed. But on a lot of nights, the expectation is he will operate as a high-level No. 2, or even shift between roles depending on what the team needs from him.
All of this will factor into the LeBron's decision on if, and where, he wants to play next season.
