Ahead of this past weekend, a report surfaced claiming that the Los Angeles Rams "in recent weeks discussed trading for" mercurial wide receiver A.J. Brown.
On Saturday, NFL insider Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk shared that the Rams "tapped out of the talks" with the Eagles. On Sunday, Florio revealed an interesting piece of information regarding current Rams wide receiver Davante Adams.
"Per a league source, the Rams — while talking about a possible trade for Brown — were pursuing the possibility of trading Adams," Florio wrote.
The Rams signed Adams to a two-year contract that could have been worth up to $44M last offseason. Per ESPN stats, the 33-year-old finished this past regular season with a league-best 14 touchdown catches. Adams was second on the 2025 Rams with 60 receptions, 114 targets and 789 receiving yards that he tallied over 14 regular-season games.
As it pertains to Brown's future, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman allegedly wants at least a first-round draft pick and a second-round choice in return for the 28-year-old who signed a three-year, $96M contract extension with $84M in guaranteed money in the spring of 2024. It was previously said that the Eagles won't trade Brown before June 1 for reasons related to the salary cap, but that situation may have changed after the club worked out a deal to keep tight end Dallas Goedert.
"The Rams presumably were hoping to get a deal done by [Sunday], when a fully-guaranteed $6M roster bonus came due," Florio added about the club possibly trading Adams. "And the payment of the bonus likely means they’ll keep Adams and his $18M base salary."
The Rams are a win-now team with 38-year-old quarterback Matthew Stafford running it back with the franchise for at least one more season. It remains to be seen if that reality will result in Los Angeles having Adams, Brown and fellow receiver Puka Nacua on the roster when regular-season contests get underway this coming September.
Then again, the Rams may have already decided that they won't be matching Roseman's asking price for Brown anytime soon.
