Will Broncos-Dolphins Jaylen Waddle trade impact Eagles' stance on A.J. Brown?

For a piece published early Tuesday morning, Chad Graff of The Athletic mentioned that the New England Patriots seemed to be hoping that the Philadelphia Eagles may become "a more eager trade partner" regarding mercurial wide receiver A.J. Brown after June 1, when such a deal would be easier for the Eagles to complete as it pertains to the salary cap.

However, the Denver Broncos may have since ruined New England's plans.

Eagles now unlikely to lower asking price for A.J. Brown?

Later on Tuesday, it was reported that the Broncos had agreed to acquire Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and a 2026 fourth-round draft pick in return for a 2026 first-round pick, a third-rounder and a fourth-rounder.

"If the Eagles received a Denver-style offer from another team, they would likely trade Brown, even though they have to take on a massive dead cap hit," Cayden Steele of NJ Advance Media explained. "Now, the Patriots may have to meet Philadelphia’s asking price to acquire Brown this offseason."

Specifically, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has allegedly asked for at least a first-round draft pick and a second-round selection in return for Brown. Brown is under contract via the three-year, $96M extension with $84M in guaranteed money he signed in the spring of 2024, so Roseman didn't need to be in a rush to trade the 28-year-old before the Dolphins and Broncos came to an agreement on the Waddle deal.

For what it's worth, the Eagles working out an agreement to keep tight end Dallas Goedert could allow them to trade Brown at any point this spring. That said, Roseman may now feel he has been spot on with his valuation of Brown's services since the 2025 season wrapped up.

Will Marquise "Hollywood" Brown deal affect how Eagles view A.J. Brown?

Also on Tuesday, NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo reported that the Eagles are signing veteran wide receiver Marquise "Hollywood" Brown to a one-year deal worth up to $6.5M. According to Steele, "Hollywood" is not seen as "a replacement-level player for A.J. Brown" and is instead viewed as a No. 3/starting slot receiver by the Eagles.

In short, there's no indication the A.J. Brown saga is nearing a conclusion as of St. Patrick's Day.
