Hollywood Brown seems to send big message to critics of Eagles QB Jalen Hurts

It was reported on Tuesday that the Philadelphia Eagles were signing former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise "Hollywood" Brown to a one-year deal worth up to $6.5M.

Brown was featuring for Kansas City when Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts torched the Chiefs en route to earning Super Bowl LIX Most Valuable Player Award honors in February 2025. During the latest edition of the "Speakeasy" program, Brown seemed to send somewhat of a message to those who think Hurts isn't an elite player at the sport's most important position.

Jalen Hurts has a fan in Hollywood Brown

"I always been a fan of Jalen Hurts from even his story back at Alabama," Brown explained, per Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia. "...Being across that sideline in the Super Bowl and seeing how calm, collected, dialed in he was and the throws he was making. You get back to home and you get on the TV and you see people saying what he can’t do, and it’s like, everybody get on TV and everybody got their opinion, that’s why we love this game. That’s why we love this sport, because anybody can chime in. You can’t be mad at somebody speaking their opinion. But I personally feel like he’s one of the top vertical passers in the league, as far as his deep ball is great."

Since at least January 2024, some have speculated that the Eagles could look to find a way to escape the five-year contract extension that Hurts signed in the spring of 2023. More recently, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was asked this past December if he had seriously considered benching Hurts in favor of then-backups Tanner McKee or Sam Howell.

Following Philadelphia's wild-card playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers in January, former Eagles defensive end Chris Long seemed to blame Hurts and Sirianni for that defeat. A subsequent report claimed that Hurts had "been the source of much internal frustration" inside the Eagles' locker room throughout at least the 2025 season.

Nevertheless, it sounds like Brown is hyped at the thought of catching passes thrown by Hurts.

What Hollywood Brown likes about Jalen Hurts' game

"He’s one of the best vertical throwers in the league," Brown added about Hurts. "That’s attractive to a receiver. He’s putting it on the money. And on third down, when it matters, money downs, he can make it happen however he got to do it. It don’t matter how it look. He’s going to make it happen."

It currently appears that "Hollywood" Brown and mercurial wide receiver A.J. Brown will be teammates with Philadelphia when the 2026 season gets underway. If that ends up being the case and both players stay healthy, they could help the Eagles' offense improve following a down campaign for that unit.
