Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones raised eyebrows and generated some headlines when he took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and posted the name of veteran pass-rusher Cameron Jordan, who remains a free agent heading into the third weekend of March.
For a piece published on Friday, Chiefs reporter Nate Taylor of ESPN addressed whether or not Kansas City is a potential landing spot for Jordan.
"The Chiefs are a possible destination for pass-rusher Cameron Jordan, according to a league source," Taylor explained. "The 15-year veteran spent last season with the New Orleans Saints, recording 10.5 sacks, 15 quarterback hits, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery."
Jordan thus far has played only for the Saints since they made him a first-round pick during the 2011 NFL Draft. That said, he has made it clear this offseason that he wants "to be valued" and that he will make a "business" decision regarding his plans for the 2026 season.
There was no indication throughout the winter that he wants to retire, and it's unknown if a Chiefs team in need of help at the position would be willing to match his asking price. Back in February, Daniel Popper of The Athletic predicted that Jordan could accept a one-year deal worth around $8M from an interested club.
The fact that veteran tight end Travis Kelce is returning for at least one more season indicates that the Chiefs are still in a win-now mode. Thus, one would think Chiefs general manager Brett Veach wouldn't be opposed to handing a one-year deal to a proven commodity such as Jordan.
"The Chiefs entered Thursday with around $10M in salary cap space," Taylor added. "In order to sign Jordan, the Chiefs could create more cap space by restructuring the contracts of Jones and center Creed Humphrey."
That said, Taylor noted that the Chiefs are expected to address defensive end and cornerback during the 2026 draft. Some think the Chiefs will make Miami Hurricanes pass-rusher Rueben Bain Jr. the ninth overall pick of the upcoming player-selection process if he falls to Kansas City.
