Veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. famously featured for the New York Giants from 2014 through the 2018 season before he was traded to the Cleveland Browns. While he hasn't played in a regular-season game since Dec. 8, 2024, the 33-year-old isn't calling time on his career quite yet.
Per Kevin Patra of the NFL's website, Beckham participated in the Fanatics Flag Football Classic this past weekend. While at the event, he was asked by media personality Kay Adams about possibly playing with young Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart.
"Weird, you said that. That sounds great," Beckham responded. "If that opportunity presents itself, I would love to do that. Be excited about that. He's a good dude. He's young, and he likes to dance. I like all that. So he looks like he likes to have fun."
On paper, the Giants had a need at receiver even before Wan'Dale Robinson left the club to sign with the Tennessee Titans in free agency. Additionally, Beckham has experience playing under recently hired Giants head coach John Harbaugh, as the two worked together when Beckham was with the Baltimore Ravens during the 2023 season.
That said, the version of Beckham who earned three Pro Bowl nods as a member of the Giants is now but a memory. There's no indication Big Blue or any other club is all that interested in bringing him in for even an offseason workout this spring. While with the Miami Dolphins during the 2024 campaign, Beckham tallied just nine receptions for 55 yards. It sounds like he is hoping that showcasing what he has left in the tank as a flag football player will put him on at least one club's radar.
"Looking forward to hopefully getting an opportunity to play this year, and hopefully, this is kinda just a starting point," Beckham added while speaking with Adams.
If nothing else, Beckham could provide some veteran leadership for younger Giants players, such as Dart, who may benefit from having a Super Bowl champion in the locker room. One wonders how Dart would feel about having Beckham as a teammate later this year.
