The 2025 Dallas Cowboys were two completely different teams every week.
They had a Super Bowl-caliber offense and a UFL-caliber defense, which, predictably, led to their playoff aspirations falling short long before the end of the season.
Team owner/GM Jerry Jones has made several moves to address that situation, and new defensive coordinator Christian Parker will be on the hot seat from day one.
However, if you were to ask CeeDee Lamb, the struggling defense isn't much of an issue. Talking to Ross Tucker on his podcast, the star wideout admitted that he couldn't care less about what the defense does or doesn't do.
"Well, for me, brother, I was in the Big 12," Lamb said. "I mean to say that with all due respect. My guys know I love 'em. But I'm used to putting up these kinds of numbers. Offensively, okay, if our defense gets a stop, we look at it, like, 'Oh, my God, yes, we can run away with this game.' If they don't, we still gotta go score. We gotta score to win the game anyway."
Lamb believes he's got a job to do, regardless of the context, the opposition or whether their defense got a stop. He wants to score on every drive, and that's the end of the story.
"As a receiver on the offensive side of the ball, I'm looking to run up the score anyway," Lamb added. "So, if they do match us, OK, cool. We still have to do this because that's who we are. I feel like our identity on pretty much every offense I've been on, I feel like, just scoring points is everything."
Unfortunately, things don't work that way in football. Of course, that's not to say that he should throw his defense under the bus or blame them for the team's shortcomings, but all three aspects of the game matter in this sport.
The Cowboys averaged the most total yards per game (404.2) and the seventh-most points per game (27.6), but they also gave up the third-most total yards (391.4) and the most points per game (30.1).
That's simply not sustainable, and they won't be much better than their 7-9-1 record unless they find a way to get some stops.
