Over the years, multiple stories surfaced detailing how quarterback Kyler Murray allegedly wasn't always the most popular person inside the Arizona Cardinals' locker room.
It seems like veteran wide receiver and current free agent DeAndre Hopkins doesn't agree with those former teammates regarding Murray.
Hopkins shared Arizona offenses with Murray from 2020 through the 2022 season. During a recent chat with TMZ Sports, Hopkins indicated that he would be open to following Murray and joining the Minnesota Vikings this offseason.
"Kyler, that's my bro, man. Kyler's like family," Hopkins explained, per Kevin Patra of the NFL's website. "I talked to Kyler throughout the year last year. I talked to Kyler after his situation in Arizona. Kyler's like family, man. I would always embrace that journey with him. He's on a one-year deal, if I'm not mistaken. Whatever I can do for someone like that -- if Kyler needed me, if the Vikings need me, they know I'll be there. Justin Jefferson, the Vikings got one of the best receivers in the game."
As Hopkins referenced, Murray signed a one-year contract worth $1.3M with the Vikings because the Cardinals owed him $38M in fully guaranteed money for next season. Officially, Murray is on track to compete with 2024 first-round draft pick J.J. McCarthy for the Minnesota starting job. However, many seem to believe it is a matter of when and not if Murray will emerge as the Vikings' QB1.
Former Minnesota wide receiver Jalen Nailor joined the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this month, so the Vikings could have a need at the position. As for Hopkins, the 33-year-old recorded 22 receptions for 330 yards and two touchdowns over 17 games with the Baltimore Ravens this past season. He clearly isn't thinking about riding off into the sunset of retirement this spring.
"I just want to be around good people, man, that love the game," Hopkins added about his future. "Just be able to give some knowledge, if I can, to some young players. I've played this game 13 seasons, so I think it's a blessing to be able to see other guys grow and help their development."
Perhaps Hopkins could help Murray win and then hold onto the Minnesota starting job later this year.
