The San Francisco Giants haven't had a player make consecutive starts in left field on Opening Day since Barry Bonds in 2007. That is set to change on Wednesday.
Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reported that Giants manager Tony Vitello that outfielder Heliot Ramos will get the start in left field against the Yankees. Unless something changes, Ramos will finally end the Giants' revolving door in left.
The list of left fielders since Bonds is not exactly a list of baseball immortals. The Giants have used, in order since 2008, current Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, Fred Lewis, current Team USA manager Mark De Rosa, Pat Burrell, Aubrey Huff, Andres Torres, Mike Morse, Nori Aoki, Angel Pagan, Jarrett Parker, Hunter Pence, Connor Joe, Alex Dickerson, Austin Slater, Joc Pederson, Blake Sabol, Michael Conforto and Ramos.
Although Ramos was unable to replicate his All-Star performance from 2024, he had a solid showing last season. He posted a .256/.328/.400 batting line in his 695 plate appearances, hitting 21 homers and 24 doubles.
Ramos could start a streak of his own in left. The 26-year-old has four more years of team control remaining and could be a fixture in the Giants outfield for years to come. If he can return to the form he showed in 2024, the Giants may have finally found the answer to their left field problem and end the revolving door once and for all.
