While Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman insisted on Sunday that wide receiver A.J. Brown "is a member of the Eagles," some couldn't help but notice that Roseman didn't guarantee that Brown will still be with the club when the 2026 season gets underway this September.
On Monday, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni had an opportunity to address the Brown rumors that continue to hover over the franchise. Like Roseman, Sirianni may have said plenty by what he didn't say about Brown's future.
"Nothing's changed there," Sirianni said about Brown, per Bobby Kownack of the NFL's website. "A.J.'s an Eagle. Nothing has changed from the last time I spoke to you guys. That's where we are."
For months, numerous stories have linked Brown with a New England Patriots team that could use a proven WR1, and that has Mike Vrabel as its head coach. Those two individuals seem to have a good relationship stemming from when Vrabel was Brown's coach with the Tennessee Titans from 2019 through the 2021 season.
Brown is under contract via the three-year extension he signed in the spring of 2024. Meanwhile, the Eagles added receivers Marquise "Hollywood" Brown and Elijah Moore to the roster earlier in March.
"It's been fun watching those guys throughout their careers, seeing them not too long ago come out in the draft," Sirianni said about Hollywood Brown and Moore. "Always been a fan of those guys and their game and their style of play. Just adding depth. This game, there's so many ups and downs throughout the year, there's bumps and bruises throughout the way, so you're always looking at depth at the position and competition at every position."
Understandably, some have assumed the Eagles' receiver-related transactions prove that they're planning for A.J. Brown not to be part of their offense in September. Sirianni cleverly danced around that particular topic.
"A.J.'s an Eagle," Sirianni added during his comments. "Nothing's changed since the last time we talked through everything. But you're going through all the processes you go through each and every year."
Earlier on Monday, it was repeated that the Eagles likely won't trade A.J. Brown before June 1 for reasons related to the salary cap. Nothing Sirianni said will cause outsiders to believe the Eagles and Brown will continue their working relationship through the 2026 season.
