Packers won't shut door on bringing back former All-Pro CB Trevon Diggs

The Green Bay Packers need help at cornerback, and they do have some options to get better this offseason.

As it stands, their best bet is finding a cornerback in the 2026 NFL Draft.

The Packers don't have a first-round pick due to the trade that brought Micah Parsons to Green Bay late last offseason, but they could absolutely target a potential CB1 with their second-round pick. Unless a trade is made, the Packers' first pick will be at No. 52 overall.

There is another option that's floating a bit under the radar that Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst may want to consider as well.

That would be re-signing cornerback Trevon Diggs, who played in just two games for the Pack last season after being released by the Dallas Cowboys.

The Packers cut Diggs shortly after the season ended because of the contract they inherited due to picking him up on waivers. Diggs had signed a five-year, $97 million deal in 2023, but it had no remaining guaranteed money. The Packers were able to release him and save $15.5 million in cap space, but Gutekunst isn't ruling out bringing him back.

"I wouldn't shut the door on anything," Gutekunst recently said regarding Diggs. "As we work through this draft and get to the other side of the draft, we're going to continue to look at ways to improve the football team."

Trevon Diggs could help Green Bay Packers in 2026

Diggs is far from the player he once was when he made two-straight Pro Bowls for the Cowboys in 2021 and 2022 and was voted a first-team All-Pro cornerback, but he's still a veteran presence who knows how to be a ballhawk.

Has he lost a step? Sure. Is he still a massive athlete at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds who could absolutely be helpful to the Packers and new defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon as they look for answers at cornerback?

The answer to that question is also yes.

Throw in the fact that Diggs is great friends with star pass-rusher Micah Parsons, and it makes all the sense in the world for the Pack to bring Diggs back now that they're able to get him on a team-friendly deal as a free agent.

Per Spotrac, Diggs' market value is around $7 million for a one-year contract, though the Packers may be able to get him back on an even better deal the closer and closer the start of the 2026 season gets.
