Tiger Woods has decided that he needs to take some time away from the game that made him a living legend. Woods announced his intention to step away to "seek treatment and focus on [his] health."
Woods was arrested and charged with a DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test on Friday in Jupiter, Florida, near his home. He was in a rollover car crash in his Range Rover SUV and afterward refused to submit a urinalysis or blood test for other drugs.
Woods said he understands the "seriousness of the situation."
"I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today," Woods said. "I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well being and work toward lasting recovery."

The Martin County, Florida, Sheriff's Department released the arrest affidavit, and in it, it was revealed that Woods told authorities that he was looking at his cell phone and changing the radio, and that's what made it so that he did not see a truck with a trailer slowing down in front of him, according to ESPN.
Woods' SUV rolled over after it clipped the trailer.
The Sheriff's deputy on the scene reported that Woods was sweating and that he was acting "lethargic and slow." He didn't have alcohol on his breath, but he did say that he had taken prescription pills earlier that morning.
Two hydrocodone pills were found in Woods' left pants pocket, per the affidavit. Notably, hydrocodone was in Woods' system when he was arrested for a DUI in May of 2017.
"Based on my observations of Woods, how he performed the exercises and based on my training, knowledge, and experience, I believed that [Woods'] normal facilities were impaired, and he was unable to safely operate the motor vehicle," Deputy Tatiana Levenar wrote.
Woods has not played on the PGA Tour since the 2024 Open Championship, but he was hoping to compete in the Masters, scheduled for next week.
That's clearly not going to happen now.
"I'm committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger and more focused place, both personally and professionally," Woods wrote in his release.
