Garnering respect from their peers and coaches often means more for an athlete than what fans and media may think of them. And for Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, he's earned some high praise from one of the top offensive minds in the league.
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay, who experienced what Williams can do firsthand when facing the Bears in the NFC Divisional Round in January, waxed poetic about the face of another franchise at the NFL meetings on Monday.
"He's a stud," McVay said when asked directly for his impression of Williams from their playoff matchup. "I think, even just preparing for him, watching the crunch time throws. I think he did a great job ... You know Ben [Johnson] does an excellent job of putting pressure on defenses, but he's doing a lot of different things pre-snap, which takes a lot of coordination and [creates] challenging parts for the quarterback."

McVay, regarded by many as a quarterback guru, then went into even more detail about what makes Williams special.
"The things that are so impressive are when things go off schedule," McVay said. "I mean, I couldn't believe what I witnessed on that fourth down and four. It's one of the most incredible plays that I've ever seen. But he seems like he lights up and he's at his best in the most important moments. You can tell there's a belief that his teammates have in him."
And despite entering the league under much scrutiny and debate, Williams has steadily improved each season early in his career. Since being selected by the Bears with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Williams has thrown for 7,483 yards while completing 60.3% of his passes and scoring 50 total touchdowns to 19 turnovers (13 interceptions, six fumbles lost).
He's also coming off a sophomore season that saw the Oklahoma and USC product take his game to another level in leading the Bears to their first playoff appearance in five years. In 2025, Williams tossed 3,942 yards, ran for 388 more, scored 30 combined touchdowns (27 passing, three rushing) with only eight turnovers (seven picks, one fumble lost).
Still only 24, the sky appears to be the limit for Williams, which will also means McVay will likely see Chicago's "stud" again in the postseason.
