Cowboys' Jerry Jones leaves door open for Maxx Crosby trade, addresses Ravens-Raiders saga

Shortly after the Baltimore Ravens backed out of sending two first-round draft picks to the Las Vegas Raiders for star pass-rusher Maxx Crosby in March, a report indicated that a Dallas Cowboys side that previously explored a move for Crosby was "not expected to re-engage in" trade talks with the Raiders.

While speaking with reporters on Tuesday, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones offered a bit of a tease regarding his thoughts on a potential Crosby trade.

Could Cowboys' Jerry Jones trade for Raiders' Maxx Crosby?

"I don't anticipate, standing here right now, revisiting that situation," Jones said about possibly trading for Crosby this offseason, per Tommy Yarrish of the Cowboys' website. "I don't anticipate it. Is it possible? Yes."

Baltimore controversially declined to make the trade official due to alleged concerns about "a degenerative issue in" Crosby's knee after he underwent a meniscus repair in January. Meanwhile, a report from the second half of March suggested that the Cowboys could "revisit" a possible trade for Crosby this coming fall after they were outbid by the Ravens ahead of the start of the current league year.

Is Jerry Jones among those who think the Ravens did the Raiders wrong?

General managers, executives and others have criticized the Ravens for their handling of what basically became a voided trade. After Baltimore signed former Cincinnati Bengals defensive star Trey Hendrickson to a four-year deal, some theorized that the Ravens either got "cold feet" about trading for Crosby or only ever planned to complete the trade if Hendrickson signed elsewhere.

"For me, there’s no hidden item there," Jones said about the Ravens scrapping the trade for Crosby, per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. "You have to pass a physical. You have to. And we’ve never completed an agreement until the player passes a physical. That implies that your doctors, your trainers and everybody involved gets to take a look at him. That goes with the territory. We would have basically had the same conditions with the physical. As you know, we were in on making an offer for him. So he would have come to Dallas, and we’ll all just guess what would have happened."

One can only guess if Crosby would be a Dallas player today had the Raiders accepted the Cowboys' final offer. It now seems that Crosby and Vegas will stay married through the offseason, but it also appears Jones will be ready to pounce if the 28-year-old becomes available.
