It was revealed on Wednesday that Los Angeles Rams star WR Puka Nacua checked into rehab last month to focus on his “personal growth.” Now, Nacua’s attorney, Levi McCathern, has released a statement following the news that his client is currently seeking treatment.
“Puka takes responsibility for his well-being and increasing his performance during the off-season,” McCathern said, according to The Athletic. “So, in early March — before any temporary restraining order was filed by Madison Atiabi and subsequently denied by the Court — Puka voluntarily entered a holistic care facility to focus on his personal growth.”
McCathern told the California Post (h/t the New York Post) that the Rams WR’s decision to enter rehab was not directly affiliated with the lawsuit. Atiabi alleged Nacua of made antisemitic comments during dinner with the woman, which he denies. She also said he bit her shoulder.
“He is committed to using this time constructively so that he can return in the best possible position — both personally and professionally — to continue contributing to his team and the game he loves,” the statement continued. “He will complete the program in plenty of time to be involved in all of the Rams OTAs. Puka is also deeply grateful for the support he has received from his family, friends, Coach McVay, and his teammates.
“It is unfortunate that a trivial lawsuit has drawn attention to Puka during a time when he is focused on becoming a better overall person. I am really excited to see what the future holds for this gifted young man."
TMZ reports that Nacua is currently at a state-of-the-art holistic care facility in Malibu. Based on McCathern’s statement, it appears that he’ll be back before the offseason kicks into full gear.
That’s good news for the Rams, as Nacua is coming off the best season of his career. He ranked first in the NFL in receptions (129), second in receiving yards (1,715) and tied for sixth in touchdowns (10). Nacua has over 4,000 receiving yards since joining the league in 2023.
