Warriors receive massive Stephen Curry injury update before Rockets game

The Golden State Warriors lost Stephen Curry on Jan. 30 against the Detroit Pistons after right knee pain and swelling forced him out. The absence stretched into something much longer than anyone expected.

Curry tried ramping up his workload multiple times, but setbacks kept pushing his return further down the calendar. Before the injury, Curry averaged 27.2 points, 4.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds across 39 games this season.

Stephen Curry return timeline emerges as Warriors eye late playoff push

Without him, the Warriors fell into a tailspin. Golden State sits at 36-41, stuck in 10th place in the Western Conference standings. The team now needs to win two play-in games in mid-April just to grab the eighth seed and sneak into the postseason.

That path would likely set up a first-round meeting with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

After more than two months and 27 consecutive missed games, the Warriors might finally be getting their leader back. According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Curry is expected to suit up Sunday against the Houston Rockets.

"I'm told Stephen Curry is expected to be cleared to make his return to the lineup on Sunday, against the Houston Rockets. I had one source tell me, 'All systems are a go for Steph Curry.' … The Warriors' team doctors, they've all supported anything Stephen Curry has wanted. Even if he elected to shut it down, he has been determined to return, no matter how late in the season."

Throughout the process, the Warriors and their medical staff stood behind whatever decision Curry made.

Even if he chose to shut it down completely, they were ready to support it. Curry, though, stayed determined to get back on the court.

Golden State went 23-16 with Curry in the lineup and 13-25 without him. If he returns in time for the play-in tournament, the Warriors could flip the script and make a real push into the postseason.
