When Browns could possibly trade Myles Garrett after contract move

While Cleveland Browns co-owner Jimmy Haslam insisted during the NFL's annual meetings this week that star pass-rusher Myles Garrett won't be traded this offseason, an unnamed NFL executive recently told The Athletic's Mike Sando that "the report of the option bonus date moving later for Myles Garrett makes me think Cleveland is planning on trading him."

For an article posted on Friday, Browns reporter Zac Jackson of The Athletic addressed the Garrett-related rumors that seemingly will hover over the franchise throughout the spring and summer months.

"Only explanation" for Myles Garrett move

"The only explanation for the recent contract modification is that the Browns have sort of cleared a runway for a trade in the unlikely event that they feel it’s necessary and can get proper value in return," Jackson wrote about Garrett's situation. "...After June 1, teams that believe they have the right quarterback and the right window to go for it may be prepared to make Godfather-like offers for Garrett. The Browns should then be prepared to ask for even more."

Last summer, the Dallas Cowboys received two first-round draft picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark from the Green Bay Packers for defensive star Micah Parsons. While Parsons and the Cowboys were in the middle of a contract dispute at the time that trade was made, Garrett signed a four-year, $160M extension that included $123.5M guaranteed last offseason.

What could Browns want for Myles Garrett this offseason?

"The Browns would need more than what might be the No. 30 pick in a future draft," Jackson added, "and they’d only trade Garrett for an incredible return."

Specifically, Browns insider Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland/The Land on Demand shared for a piece published on Thursday night that Cleveland could ask for three first-round picks, "which could be two No. 1s plus a player previously drafted in the first round … plus another 2027 pick" for Garrett. Browns general manager Andrew Berry certainly seems interested in acquiring assets with the highly-rated 2027 quarterback draft class in mind.
