Kirk Cousins' Raiders contract comes with record-breaking twist

Kirk Cousins is officially done waiting. The veteran quarterback signed a five-year deal to presumably start for the Las Vegas Raiders while they wait for expected No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza to be ready.

The contract is essentially a one-year deal, as that's the only year with guaranteed money, and it was structured creatively to provide financial flexibility.

Whatever the case, Cousins has set a record with this astonishing deal. Per ESPN insider Adam Schefter, no one has had more consecutive seasons with fully guaranteed money.

"Comp update: Kirk Cousins will sign a five-year, $172 million deal with the Raiders that in reality is a one-year, fully-guaranteed $20 million deal that also contains a club option for two years at $80M," Schefter wrote on X. "And maybe most notably, it also sets another new mark: this will be the 11th straight NFL season in which Cousins’ contract will be fully guaranteed."

With this new contract, Cousins will have made nearly $342M in career earnings, topping Tom Brady for the second-most in NFL history.

Only Matthew Stafford ($408.3 million, per Spotrac) has made more than Cousins. 

Cousins owns a 1-4 postseason record, with his lone win coming in 2019 with the Minnesota Vikings. He's been in the league for 14 years, with four Pro Bowl selections as his only notable accolades.

He'll have one final chance to prove that he's still got it, but even if that's not the case, he definitely owes his agent a meal or two.
