Giannis Antetokounmpo’s situation with the Milwaukee Bucks is quickly becoming one of the biggest talking points of the upcoming offseason, with insiders around the league expecting an aggressive market to form if he’s made available. Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated reported that up to six teams could pursue him, setting the stage for what one source called a “bidding bonanza” rather than the usual two-team chase.

“And that may be what’s best for both sides. Despite the recent injuries, Antetokounmpo still has enormous value. The teams that lined up for him before the February trade deadline—Golden State (Warriors), Miami (Heat), Minnesota (Timberwolves)—will still be there, as could contenders like the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston (Rockets) and New York (Knicks). Two teams can create a bidding war. A half dozen? That’s a bidding bonanza, one that could set Milwaukee up nicely for a post-Antetokounmpo future,” Mannix wrote in his article.

Each franchise has its own strategy. The Warriors view Giannis Antetokounmpo running alongside Stephen Curry. Miami has long sought a superstar to mesh with its culture and postseason identity. For Minnesota, pairing Giannis with a dominant frontcourt is seen as the key to elevating the team into serious contention.

The Lakers continue to be aggressive whenever a superstar becomes available, particularly now with Luka Doncic at the helm. The Rockets possess the assets and young core to make a strong push. Meanwhile, the Knicks offer the appeal of a large market, roster depth, and the pressure of a franchise poised to take the next level.

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future with the Bucks

Bucks’s position adds a sense of urgency to the scenario. Bucks co-owner Wes Edens has made the team’s stance clear: if Giannis Antetokounmpo doesn’t commit to a four-year extension around $275 million, Milwaukee will consider trade options rather than risk losing him for nothing. That reality creates an opening for rival teams to make bold moves.

A few weeks ago Ramona Shelburne reported that there’s a growing sense that the Bucks may have already missed the optimal window to trade Giannis Antetokounmpo. Earlier in the season, offers were stronger, as teams were willing to commit more with multiple years of control on the table. Now, with injuries piling up and contract uncertainty looming, front offices are approaching the situation with far more caution.

If the Greek Freak enters the market, teams will be ready to present offers combining draft picks, young talent, and players who can contribute right away. Milwaukee will have choices, even if the return isn’t as substantial as it might have been earlier.
