Cleetus McFarland: 'I got my a--' kicked' in NASCAR O'Reilly Series debut

Cleetus McFarland has a topsy-turvy NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series debut at Rockingham Speedway on Saturday.

The Bradenton, Florida, native and YouTube star made his first NOAPS start behind the wheel of the No. 33 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, and it didn't take long for things to literally go sideways.

An early, aggressive move saw McFarland go three-wide in turn 1, saw McFarland spin, though he was able to save his car and continue.

However, McFarland was soon lapped by leader Corey Day and later spun again. He was also issued a pit road speeding penalty in stage 3. He was also spun by his RCR teammate in Austin Hill late in the race.

When the checkered flag flew, McFarland finished 32nd, three laps down. It will now be up to NASCAR to determine whether or not McFarland's performance was sufficient enough to warrant his approval for the April 25 NOAPS race at Talladega Superspeedway.

Cleetus McFarland's debut in the books

"That was probably the hardest thing I've ever done in my life," McFarland said, per Noah Lewis. "Did I ruin anyone's day, besides my own? No, I did not. This is a hell of an opportunity. Obviously, I got my a-- kicked today. But I learned so much."

McFarland finished fourth in Saturday's ARCA East Race at Rockingham. His NOAPS debut marked his second start in the top-three series of NASCAR, following his short-lived Truck Series debut at Daytona on Feb. 13.
