March is supposed to be unpredictable. That is the entire allure of March Madness.
Brackets fall apart, favorites go home, and someone unexpected makes a run that nobody saw coming.
Then there is the UConn Huskies.
Because what they just did to the Illinois Fighting Illini on Saturday felt very familiar.
UConn pulled away for a 71-62 win over Illinois to punch its ticket to the national championship game, controlling the game late and closing it out without much drama.
And that’s kind of the point.
There was no chaos, and it was not some Cinderella story pulling off a miracle.
UConn did exactly what it does when it gets to this stage. They advanced.

UConn has now made eight Final Four appearances. That alone puts them in elite company. What separates them is what happens next.
They are 6–1 in their previous seven trips.
Six times they’ve gotten to this stage, and six times they’ve finished the job by winning a national championship
This is the kind of pattern that should make Michigan and Arizona uncomfortable.
Dan Hurley’s presence is a big part of what makes this UConn team so consistent. He is intense, demanding, and completely wired into every possession, but his teams never look out of control. That edge shows up in how they defend, how they execute late and how comfortable they are in big moments.
