Maple Leafs' Matthew Knies shares 'weird' experience after loss to Kings

Toronto Maple Leafs winger Matthew Knies shared a "weird" experience he had during Saturday's 7-6 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings.

During his media duties after the game, Knies, 23, was asked about what it was like to face former teammate Scott Laughton, now playing for the Kings.

"It was pretty weird, to be honest, to see him in a different jersey. Just not an easy player to go up against. Obviously, really good on the faceoff dot, so yeah, it was a little weird," Knies said.

On March 6, Laughton, 31, was traded to the Kings by the Maple Leafs in exchange for a conditional third-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.

Since leaving Toronto, the center has played 14 games with Los Angeles, scoring four goals and adding two assists for six points. His numbers already represent half of what he produced with the Leafs this season in 43 games, suggesting the West Coast is treating him well.

The Maple Leafs put in a more-than-decent performance against the Kings on Saturday. They held a two-goal lead in the first period with Knies and Steven Lorentz as the scorers. In the third period, Knies scored again to tie the game at 6-6, sending it to overtime, where Los Angeles claimed the victory on a Quinton Byfield goal.
