The Miami Dolphins went through a major roster overhaul in the offseason.
With Jaylen Waddle, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Bradley Chubb and Tyreek Hill all gone, it seemed that De'Von Achane was next on the list. However, the front office has been adamant about keeping the speedy running back in South Florida.
That's why Achane would rather watch it take action than just talk, and he's taken the first step toward pushing for a new deal by not showing up for voluntary workouts. Head coach Jeff Hafley, however, doesn't sound too worried.
"Achane was not here today," Hafley told the media. "I’m not going to dive into those talks right now. That’s all, honestly, that’s part of the business. It’s part of what every team goes through in those situations. And they’ll work it out."
Achane is one of the most explosive playmakers in the league right now. Even with a negative game script, he still put up great numbers for Mike McDaniel's team last season.
According to Football Reference, he turned 238 carries into 1,350 rushing yards (5.7 yards per carry) and eight touchdowns, adding 67 receptions on 85 targets for 488 yards (7.3 yards per reception) and four scores in 16 games (all starts).
The Dolphins offense is going to look quite different without their star wide receivers and McDaniel calling the shots, but they knew that giving up on their running back was going to put Malik Willis in a tough spot. As such, it should be just a matter of time before the Dolphins meet him in the middle and give him the big-money deal he's looking for.
