The Florida State Seminoles have picked their starting quarterback for the 2026 season.
It was always assumed that Ashton Daniels would end up being the starter. That's why he transferred to Tallahassee after spending last season with the Auburn Tigers and the last three with the Stanford Cardinal.
A redshirt senior from Buford, Georgia, Daniels brings a lot of experience to the table for the Seminoles. He's also a dual-threat quarterback, which is what head coach Mike Norvell looks for in his starter.
With that said, redshirt freshman quarterback Kevin Sperry gave Daniels a run for his money this spring. So much so that Norvell wasn't ready to name a starting quarterback at the end of spring practices.
Norvell needed some time, apparently, but now that he's gotten it — he's given Daniels the edge and the starting nod, according to Andrea Adelson of ESPN.
News: I have been told Ashton Daniels has been named Florida State's starting quarterback. Announcement should be coming shortly. It has been trending in this direction, so not a huge shock, but important for FSU to have a starter named headed into the offseason.

"I've really been pleased with what he's shown, being able to live in the pocket and delivering the ball," Norvell had said of Daniels at the end of spring practice, per Adelson. "I think he's shown growth through the spring on the vertical shots, and he hit a couple [in] the scrimmage the other day that were right where they needed to be. I mean, huge plays that supported big drives."
So what does Daniels bring to the table for the Seminoles?
First is experience, and that's important for FSU as Norvell's program looks to bounce back from a 7-17 combined record over the past two seasons.
Sperry has thrown 17 passes in his young college career. Daniels has thrown 721 over four seasons.
Daniels took over as the starting quarterback during a stretch last season for Auburn and threw for 797 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions. He also rushed for 280 yards and two touchdowns.
As mentioned, that's the other quality Daniels possesses. He can hurt a defense with his arm and with his legs. Before spending last season with Auburn, he started for two seasons at Stanford.
In total, Daniels has thrown for 4,783 yards and 24 touchdowns with 22 interceptions across four college football seasons. He's also rushed for 1,401 yards and 11 touchdowns.
If he can keep his interceptions down for Florida State, he'll absolutely give the Seminoles a shot in 2026.
