The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a great draft so far in 2026 as the franchise has been able to address a few different weak areas on the roster. The offensive line got some attention in the first round as the Steelers selected offensive tackle Max Iheanachor out of Arizona State.

Pittsburgh then got another weapon for the offense in the second round as the organization traded up for wide receiver Germie Bernard out of Alabama.

The Steelers went into the draft with the most draft capital in the league, and a lot of that was in the third round as the franchise entered the event with three third-round picks.

After taking quarterback Drew Allar with the 76th overall selection, Pittsburgh continued to add to its roster in an impressive fashion as the team picked defensive back Daylen Everette from the University of Georgia with the 85th overall pick in the event.

The Steelers roster for the 2026 season is starting to come together, but there is still some more work to do when it comes to feeling better about the team turning into a legitimate contender in 2026. Everette solidifies the backend of the defense, and he also provides some stability at cornerback. He also provides some versatility for the defense.

Everette played at Georgia for four seasons, and he enters the NFL with a ton of experience. He played in 55 games across his career in the SEC. He totaled five interceptions over those four seasons while also being a reliable tackler up around the line of scrimmage. His personality seems to fit the Pittsburgh defense, and he should be able to make an impact right away, although it will be hard for him to see the field in such a talented group in the secondary.

The Steelers have addressed a ton of needs throughout the offseason, and the roster already looks better on paper than it did at this time during the 2025 offseason. There should be a decent amount of optimism surrounding the team as it continues to move through the 2026 NFL Draft.

Everette is the first defensive selection for the Steelers in the 2026 NFL Draft, which shows a significant philosophy shift from the organization. Hopefully that pays off starting in the 2026 season.
