The Cleveland Browns still need to figure out who's going to start at quarterback.
Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders might be ahead of the pack, with Dillon Gabriel and rookie sixth-round pick Taylen Green rounding out the room.
A lot has been said of this competition, given that both frontrunners struggled when given a chance.
Nevertheless, Browns star DT Maliek Collins believes that, even though he'll support whoever wins the competition, Sanders brings a different type of confidence to the table.
“I think Shedeur, super talented, I think he also has a lot to prove, too. Maybe to themselves, like, who am I? I think whoever we rolling with is who we are rolling with,” Collins told Terron Armstead in his podcast. “I think they said it is an open competition. Let the best man win in that situation. I like Shedeur, I like the swag he brings, the confidence he plays with. Deshaun’s a little bit more quiet but he is still a baller.”
Sanders showed flashes of strong play, but he also made his fair share of mistakes — as all rookies do.
That said, the offense did feel different with him on the field. The offensive line played slightly better, and it just felt like they weren't truly out of games.
Of course, he's still got plenty of work to do. His decision-making and accuracy left plenty to be desired, though he wouldn't be the first rookie quarterback to struggle to a degree.
The Browns invested heavily in the offense this offseason, with new head coach Todd Monken leading the way.
There are no guarantees in Cleveland, but regardless of who wins the QB competition in training camp, chances are that Sanders will have multiple opportunities to prove his worth in year two.
