Jalen Brunson, Knicks make history with third-straight blowout win

With their series-opening win over the Philadelphia 76ers, the New York Knicks sent a message and continued to look unbeatable. The Knicks grabbed a 1-0 lead in their second-round series, dominating the 76ers to the tune of 137-98.

New York's 39-point win on Monday night followed their franchise record-setting 51-point destruction of the Atlanta Hawks that clinched that series and set up what would happen four days later. And two days before eliminating the Hawks in six games, they beat them 126-97 in the fifth game of the series.

Knicks' recent hot streak has become historic

Put it all together, and the Knicks' consecutive large margins of victory are historic. Thanks to pouring it on the 76ers, New York became the first team of the play-by-play era (since 1997) to hold a 30-point lead in three playoff games in a row.

Fueling the Knicks' offensive explosion, Jalen Brunson scored 35 points against Philadelphia. He did it while shooting an efficient 66.7% from the field and sinking 3-of-6 from three.

Jalen Brunson even made Knicks history of his own

Brunson even made some Knicks history of his own. He put up 27 of his total in the first half, the second-most by any Knick player in a half of a playoff game since tracking started in 1996-97.

Brunson's 35 points are currently his second-highest output so far this postseason — he scored 39 on April 28th in the first game of the Knicks' historic trio of games.

Brunson didn't do it alone

In helping Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns recorded 17 points with six rebounds and six assists in only 20 minutes. Mikal Bridges also scored 17 of his own, going 7-of-10 from the field and 3-for-5 from long range.

OG Anunoby finished with 18, missing only one field goal.

All in all, the Knicks have found their recipe for success and are playing at a collective level that makes them the clear favorite to win the Eastern Conference, which is the clear goal for a franchise that fell just shy of the NBA Finals one year ago.

New York will now try to make more history with a fourth-straight blowout win when they take the court again on Wednesday night.
