Warriors linked to new potential Steve Kerr replacement

The Golden State Warriors are facing a crossroads right now.

This offseason will be pivotal. They have to make a decision about some of their veterans, and Steve Kerr might not be back to coach them.

That's why Mike Dunleavy Jr. and his brass of decision-makers must keep an eye out for any potential replacement candidate.

According to Front Office Sports' Alex Schiffler, Michigan's Dusty May has emerged as a potential frontrunner for the Orlando Magic's job, and the Warriors could also be in play there.

Dusty May could be a candidate for the Warriors' coaching job

"Multiple league sources reiterated that interest on Monday, with one adding that May could also be a candidate for the Warriors if Steve Kerr elects not to return for a 13th season with Golden State," Schiffler wrote.

Kerr and the Warriors continue to discuss potential alternatives for his future, but there's no clarity about whether he'll return.

"Kerr had his second meeting in as many weeks with Warriors brass on Monday, but has yet to decide if he will continue to coach the franchise he’s won four championships with," Schiffler added.

May is coming off leading the Wolverines to a national championship. He's helped turn the program around almost overnight, and he'll be a hot commodity in coaching circles over the next couple of months.

Kerr has earned the right to decide his next move and whether he wants to return for another year after coaching the team to four NBA championships.

That said, the Warriors must explore all avenues if he does leave. Stephen Curry isn't getting any younger, and with Draymond Green's future also up in the air, the front office will have to make some big moves, regardless of who's on the bench calling the shots.
