Yankees' top prospect set to make major league debut

As one former New York Yankees top prospect heads to the injured list, another is set to take his place.

Outfielder Jasson Dominguez exited the Yankees game against the Rangers in the first inning after colliding with the wall while making a running catch. Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reported that Dominguez has a low-grade AC sprain in his left shoulder and will remain in concussion protocol. He is expected to miss several weeks.

Dominguez's injury has opened the door for another top prospect. Insider Francys Romero reported that outfielder Spencer Jones will join the Yankees for his major league debut.

Spencer Jones getting chance to establish himself with New York Yankees

Ranked as the Yankees' sixth-best prospect per MLB.com, Jones has lost some of his prospect luster. He had been a consensus top-100 prospect ahead of the 2024 season, but concerns about his hitting have tempered enthusiasm. Jones is regarded as having impressive raw power and plus speed, although he may not make enough contact to truly tap into either tool.

Jones had fared well in Triple-A to begin the 2026 season, posting a .258/.366/.592 batting line with 11 homers and seven doubles in his 142 plate appearances entering Thursday. He also showed his Three True Outcomes tendencies as he drew 18 walks while striking out 48 times.

If Jones can make enough contact, he could pair with fellow outfielder Aaron Judge to give the Yankees a formidable duo in the lineup. He should get plenty of chances to establish himself in the majors with Dominguez on the IL.
