Insider refutes claims about reported Aaron Rodgers, Steelers meeting

Right before Friday afternoon began, a new development regarding the saga involving quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers went public.

As is often the case with situations involving Rodgers, this update left outsiders with more questions than answers.

No meeting scheduled or expected between Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers this weekend?

"From everything I can gather, there is no meeting scheduled or expected between Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers," Steelers reporter Mark Kaboly of "The Pat McAfee Show" shared via X (formerly known as Twitter) late Friday morning.

Shortly after it was reported on Thursday morning that Rodgers was "coming into Pittsburgh and will sign with the team this weekend," Kaboly wrote that the Steelers had "not been informed" of a potential visit from the future Hall of Famer at that time. On Friday, Kaboly indicated that was still the case.

Kaboly shared his information not long after Steelers general manager Omar Khan said during an interview that he didn't "know where specifically Aaron is...at this moment." According to Kaboly, Rodgers wasn't at the Steelers' facility at the time Khan made those comments.

Aaron Rodgers may not visit the Steelers this weekend?

"I've reached out to a couple inside the building, and nobody has seen him yet," Kaboly added about Rodgers and the Steelers. "Today is the first day of rookie minicamp. Media will be there on Saturday. Stay tuned. Maybe Rodgers will show later, maybe tomorrow, or maybe he won't. He isn't under contract..."

As recently as Friday morning, it was suggested that conversations Rodgers had throughout the offseason showed he would return to the Steelers at some point this spring. Meanwhile, Kaboly is among the reporters who previously hinted that Rodgers would ink a contract in time to report for OTAs on May 18.

The perception exists that Rodgers wants to earn more money than the $15M attached to the unrestricted free-agent tender that the Steelers recently placed on him. Before Kaboly's post, it seemed like the Rodgers-Steelers story was nearing its expected end.

However, it now appears that Steelers fans hoping that this topic would be put to bed by Monday morning may not get that wish.
