Steelers’ Aaron Rodgers saga just got more complicated

It’s no secret that the Pittsburgh Steelers have entered into another saga involving Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers dragged things out during the 2025 offseason before eventually informing the Steelers he planned to sign and play for the team that year. Not long after making that decision, however, Rodgers appeared on "The Pat McAfee Show" and dropped a major tell implying that the 2025 season would be his final one in the NFL.

As the 2025 season went on, Rodgers began to show flashes of strong play and once again fueled rumors by suggesting he could return for the 2026 campaign. But plenty changed around him in the months that followed. Mike Tomlin surprisingly stepped away from the organization, the Steelers quickly pivoted to hiring Mike McCarthy, and suddenly the franchise was facing major uncertainty both at head coach and quarterback. Pittsburgh GM Omar Khan promised fans that the 2026 saga would not be like the 2025 one. So far, it has been worse in the eyes of many Steelers fans.

That has left Steelers fans once again waiting on Rodgers to make up his mind. Reports surfaced earlier this week claiming Rodgers was in Pittsburgh, only for conflicting reports to emerge on Friday disputing whether he was actually in the city at all. The confusion finally got some clarity on Saturday when Steelers insider Gerry Dulac shared another unusual update, confirming that Rodgers is indeed in Pittsburgh as speculation about his future continues to swirl.

"SOURCES: Aaron Rodgers has been in town for a couple days, but the Steelers have not met with him yet and instead have been talking with his agent," Dulac said. "Rodgers has stayed away from the team’s South Side facility while the three-day rookie minicamp has been going on."

Dulac’s update only added another strange wrinkle to what has already become a drawn-out situation for Pittsburgh. While Rodgers reportedly being in town is certainly notable, the fact that the Steelers have apparently not even met with him yet is what immediately stands out.

Instead, the organization is reportedly continuing discussions through Rodgers’ agent, which suggests there is still no final resolution in place despite all the speculation surrounding his future.

The Steelers are hopeful the Aaron Rodgers saga ends soon

What also makes the situation more unusual is that Rodgers is reportedly staying away from the team’s South Side facility while rookie minicamp is taking place. On the surface, that likely helps avoid creating an unnecessary distraction for the incoming rookie class and coaching staff. Still, for a player reportedly already in Pittsburgh, it naturally raises more questions about where things truly stand between Rodgers and the organization.

At this point, Steelers fans are likely growing tired of the constant twists and mixed signals. Rodgers being in Pittsburgh feels like an encouraging sign, but until something official happens, this latest development is just another chapter in an offseason sequel storyline that has dragged on far longer than many expected. With the quarterback situation still unsettled, all eyes remain on whether Pittsburgh and Rodgers can finally bring this saga to an end. Steelers fans are ready for this new era to get underway. Until Rodgers says he's on board, it's hard to do so.
