Rival teams eye three Mets stars as prime trade targets

To say that the New York Mets have had a tough start to the season wouldn't tell half of the story.

Carlos Mendoza and David Stearns may have trouble showing their faces in Queens, as the team is sitting on a 15-24 record after entering the campaign with World Series aspirations.

That's why, since the Mets are also coming off a late-season meltdown in 2025, opposing teams believe they might be finally ready to pull the plug on this roster and make some moves.

According to MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today, teams around the league think that Freddy Peralta, Clay Holmes, and Bo Bichette can be had at the right price.

Multiple teams will try to steal talent from the Mets

"The Mets soon may be the center of attention once they realize that this season is a lost cause, letting their rivals know they are open for business. They have three of the top trade chips in the game in starters Freddy Peralta and Clay Holmes and infielder Bo Bichette," wrote Nightengale.

Granted, injuries have also taken a toll on Mendoza's team, but they simply may not have the personnel they need to turn the campaign around.

Despite the tough season, Holmes has had a strong season thus far. Per Baseball Reference, he holds a 4-3 record with a 1.86 ERA and 1.014 WHIP in eight appearances (all starts).

Peralta has also held his end of the bargain, but has struggled due to a lack of run support. Even so, he's 2-3 with a 3.12 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 43 IP, per Baseball Reference.

As for Bichette, he was one of the Mets' big fish in free agency, but he has struggled mightily this season, being a liability on defense and hitting just .237 with two homers. Even so, he should have a strong market if made available.

There's still plenty of baseball to be played this season, but with all the noise surrounding this clubhouse, it wouldn't be shocking to see them go through a panic sale.
