Richard Childress Racing shows proof of life with strong Watkins Glen run

Richard Childress Racing desperately needed a good weekend for drivers Austin Dillon and Kyle Busch, and the organization got one at Watkins Glen.

Austin Dillon, known for a lack of results at road courses, ran inside the top 10 for much of the race and came home sixth, with Busch, who threw away a top 10 at Texas last week after a late-race incident, finishing eighth despite being under the weather.

The race marks Dillon's first top 10 of the season and the second in three races for Busch, who was in his second race working with new crew chief Andy Street.

"Man, God is so good," Dillon told Fox Sports. "It was fun saving fuel there behind Briscoe. It's cool that Kyle and I both were racing. Just a good day for RCR overall."

Dillon and Busch entered the race weekend tied for 26th in the Cup Series standings but moved up to 22nd and 24th, respectively, after Sunday's race.

Still, with 14 races remaining in the regular season, both drivers have plenty of work to do in order to make the Chase and compete for a championship.

Busch relayed to his team over the radio during the race that he would like to have a doctor meet him at his bus post-race in order to receive a shot for a sinus cold he had been suffering through for the duration of the race weekend.
