The Detroit Pistons seemed poised to sweep the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference semifinals after going up 2-0 out the gate, but that quickly changed when the series moved to Cleveland.
Cleveland tied the series 2-2 with two wins at home and then, on Wednesday, the Cavs pulled ahead 3-2 with a 117-113 overtime win in Detroit.
Now, the Cavaliers are one game away from winning this series and advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Considering that the Pistons lost both road games in this series so far, winning in Cleveland may sound like tall task. But, Cade Cunningham, who notched 39 points, nine assists and seven rebounds in the Game 5 loss, isn't worried. After the game, he made a promise to Pistons nation.
"It's first four wins, though...We've had our back against the wall before," Cunningham said after the game. "At the end of the day, if we can’t win a game on the road, how far are we really going to get in the playoffs? Gotta go win a game on the road, that's what we're gonna do."
Cunningham also owned up to why the Pistons lost: They just didn't play well enough. Detroit had a chance to win, but it slipped through their hands.
"They played better than us," Cunningham told reporters. "They executed. They scored more points than us."
"We just didn’t close the game. Didn't play at the level that it takes to win this game."
Now, the Pistons and Cavs go at it 7 p.m. EDT on Saturday, and Detroit's future in this championship run is on the line. As Cunningham mentioned, they've come back from a deficit before, even winning three in a row in the last series to move forward, and they'll need that drive and determination now to advance.
