The perception exists that wantaway Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown is keen on joining the New England Patriots because he wants to reunite with New England's Mike Vrabel, who previously was Brown's head coach while with the Tennessee Titans.
During a recent appearance on the latest edition of the CLNS Media "All 32 Podcast," Mike Giardi of the Boston Sports Journal explained why Brown may also be looking forward to catching passes thrown by Patriots quarterback and 2025 regular-season Most Valuable Player finalist Drake Maye.
"I think you're gonna get a big bounce from him," Giardi said about Brown likely joining the Patriots, per Andrew Gould of NESN. "I think if he stays healthy-ish ... being reunited with Vrabel and then with a quarterback who's willing to push it into tight windows, a quarterback who's willing to throw the ball over the middle of the field ... A.J. Brown could have a great impact on the team."
Giardi may have been referencing Brown's history of knee problems that seemingly won't prevent New England from acquiring him via a trade that won't become official before June 1 for reasons related to the salary cap. Meanwhile, Brown didn't hide over the past couple of seasons that he was frustrated with his role in the Philadelphia offense and/or with the play of Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.
New England is expected to trade for Brown and not re-sign free agent Stefon Diggs. Additionally, Patriots wide receiver and free-agency signing Romeo Doubs made it known this week that he'd be just fine with losing targets to Brown this coming fall.
"Even if A.J. Brown is not the 1,500-yard receiver he was the first two years he was in Philadelphia ... that's gonna dramatically improve life for Romeo Doubs, who didn't have that guy in Green Bay," Giardi added during the podcast segment. "...If you're a two, and A.J.'s outside you and A.J.'s getting two guys in coverage, you're one-on-one. And he's really good in one-on-one situations. He was really good against man (coverage) last year."
Thus, it sounds like everybody involved is prepared to celebrate the marriage between Brown and the Patriots in June.
