The Toronto Maple Leafs are already working on next season. According to reports, the Canadian franchise is interested in a discard from the New York Rangers.
According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the Maple Leafs are one of the teams that have shown interest in Rangers center Vincent Trocheck. The New York team no longer seems to count on the veteran forward.
"This wouldn't be a surprise, but we know that New York is trying to get off the contract of Trocheck, right? Toronto is among the teams that have some interest, for sure," Dreger said on Thursday's edition of OverDrive.
Trocheck, 32, is finishing the fourth year of his 7-year, $39.39 million deal, with an annual average value of $5.625 million.
During the 2025-26 NHL season, the Pittsburgh native forward played 67 games, scoring 16 goals and adding 37 assists for a total of 53 points.
Trocheck is, along with center J.T. Miller and defenseman Adam Fox, the third player with the most points recorded in the season with the Rangers. He is only surpassed by winger Alexis Lafreniere (57) and Mika Zibanejad (78). Truth be told, this is an interesting opportunity for the Leafs.
With the arrival of John Chayka as the new general manager on May 3 and the recent firing of Craig Berube as coach, it is clear that Toronto is accelerating its rebuild for next season.
If they manage to keep players like forwards Auston Matthews and William Nylander, in addition to adding other high-caliber pieces, the Leafs' next campaign could be very different from 2025-26. It remains to be seen whether Trocheck will be part of that team.
