Packers do not get any favors with brutal 2026 schedule

The NFL officially released its 2026 schedule on Thursday night, and it was clear that some teams will have a more favorable path in front of them than others.

One team that did not get the benefit of the doubt from the league is the Green Bay Packers. According to John Breech of CBS Sports, the Packers are tied with the Arizona Cardinals for the third-toughest schedule.

Although Green Bay's Super Bowl aspirations fell through, mostly due to key injuries and some conservative play-calling from head coach Matt LaFleur, the Packers still made the playoffs, only to let a wild-card win slip away against the Chicago Bears.

Every team's opponents for the upcoming season were already revealed and some games were even leaked earlier in the week. Now that the full schedules and dates have been pieced together, Green Bay will certainly be challenged as it looks to bounce back from that early postseason loss and live up to the expectations.

Packers have tough schedule ahead of them

For starters, the Packers made sure to bring some Wisconsin flair to their schedule reveal as teams continue to get creative and try to one-up each other with the regular season still four months away.

Green Bay opens the season on the road in an NFC North clash with the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 13. It also has notable trips to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Oct. 4), Detroit Lions (Oct. 25), New England Patriots (Nov. 8), Los Angeles Rams (Nov. 25) and Bears (Dec. 25).

Furthermore, primetime games against the Dallas Cowboys (Oct. 18), Carolina Panthers (Oct. 29), Buffalo Bills (Dec. 13) and Houston Texans (Jan. 4) serve as difficult matchups at Lambeau Field.

The schedule is already tough, but the placement of Green Bay's bye week only adds to the challenges ahead of it. Following the second meeting of the season with the Vikings on Nov. 15, the Packers return to the field for the league's inaugural Thanksgiving Eve game against the Rams.

With only a week and a half off between games, that is not much of a bye for the Packers. However, that alone is no excuse whatsoever for them or any other team that got an unfavorable draw from Thursday's schedule release.

For instance, the New Orleans Saints lose a home game to face the Pittsburgh Steelers — a team with one of the largest fanbases in the world — in Paris, while the Bears received the toughest schedule and the Cardinals may realistically not win a home game until December.

This was a Packers team that finished last season with the second-best record in a stacked NFC North division. As the Lions enter the 2026 season after firing offensive coordinator John Morton and Kyler Murray takes over at quarterback for the Vikings, all signs point to this division being even more competitive.

While the six games against division rivals always tend to be challenging, the Packers were not dealt any breaks with their entire 2026 schedule. As star pass-rusher Micah Parsons recovers from his torn left ACL, Green Bay will be challenged out of the gate as it looks to overcome the letdown from last season and withstand the schedule standing in its way.
