'Nothing better than silencing the home crowd': Aces' Chelsea Gray spoils Angel Reese's home debut for Dream

Las Vegas Aces guard Chelsea Gray stole the show from forward Angel Reese in her home debut for the Atlanta Dream on Sunday.

Reese wasn't a big factor in her first game in Atlanta since the Dream acquired her in a trade with the Chicago Sky this offseason. Gray, meanwhile, was a major factor for a surging Vegas squad.

Chelsea Gray shone for Aces against Dream

Gray scored a season-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field in Sunday's game. Her biggest bucket came with 3.6 seconds left in the fourth quarter. The guard hit a spin move and drilled a mid-range go-ahead jumper after the Aces won a jump ball, sealing an 85-84 win for Vegas.

Gray's clutch shot deflated a raucous crowd at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. She clearly enjoyed doing that.

"Nothing better than silencing the home crowd," she said in a postgame interview with NBC (h/t Yahoo Sports).

Adding to Atlanta fans' disappointment on Sunday, Reese struggled mightily in her "A-Town" debut. She scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds, but was 1-of-8 from the field (12.5 percent, a season low).

Reese's first game in Atlanta certainly was a forgettable one, but it shouldn't be a significant concern. She remains a key piece for a 2-1 Dream squad. Entering Sunday, she was leading the league in rebounding (15 rebounds per game).

Gray, meanwhile, could use her performance on Sunday to rediscover her "Point Gawd" form. Through her first four games, the 33-year-old guard was averaging 9.8 PPG, the fourth-lowest mark of her 12-year career.

Gray playing like a six-time All-Star again would make a Vegas team aiming to repeat as champions even more competitive. The Aces have now won four straight since losing their season opener to the Connecticut Sun 99-66 on May 9. They'll aim to keep building the momentum in their next game against the Los Angeles Sparks in Vegas on May 23 (CBS/Paramount+, 8 p.m. ET).
