The Dallas Cowboys are opening their regular season with a high-profile "Sunday Night Football" game against John Harbaugh and the New York Giants on Sunday, Sept. 13, and the stakes are high.
Both of these franchises are entering the 2026-27 season with something to prove, and they both want to win this game under the bright lights.
As it turns out, Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has an extra incentive to slay on the field. If he performs well, Lamb will notch a Cowboys milestone by the time the game is over.
Lamb could surpass Dez Bryant on the Cowboys' all-time receiving yards tally if he gets 44 yards in the team's Game 1 matchup against the Giants. That feat would put him No. 5 on the all-time list, according to research from Pro Football Reference.
Lamb is up to 7,416 yards, and Bryant has 7,459. No. 1 for Dallas is the great Jason Witten with 12,977 yards.
The Cowboys drafted Lamb as the 17th overall selection in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He's been an electric force on the field and has notched 7,416 receiving yards and 571 receptions in 95 regular-season games so far. The Cowboys have made some questionable moves in the draft before, but Jerry Jones absolutely hit this one out of the park.
Even if Lamb doesn't get 44 yards against the Giants, it won't be long before he does this season. He also just needs 573 yards to overtake Tony Hill at No. 3 on the tally, so that's very feasible sometime this season. No. 2 for the Cowboys is Michael Irvin at 11,904 receiving yards, so that would be quite a jump.
