The Pittsburgh Steelers are back in harmony with Aaron Rodgers, and he's officially returning for one more season.
ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the news on Saturday, and the Steelers made it official on Monday, well before first-year head coach Mike McCarthy's goal to get Rodgers inked in time for mandatory minicamp. According to reports, the deal is for up to $25 million.
Rodgers even reported to the team's facility on Monday morning for OTAs, according to ESPN's Brooke Pryor, so he's back in action.
With Rodgers back, people are talking, and that includes his teammates.
"It can only be good," Steelers player Chris Boswell said of Rodgers' return and what it means to the team. "Having a guy like that in the building can only help you. I don't think it'll ever hurt you. For him to come back early right now and be around the guys, you know, obviously, one of his previous coaches, it's only positive for sure."
Michael Pittman Jr. said that he had no idea Rodgers would be back and didn't have any inside information about the move.
"He never told me anything," Pittman said. "I learned from Twitter before he told me."
Pittman added, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: "He's just a vet — a super vet quarterback. So he knows what he likes and doesn't like. You guys have watched him play, how if you're not doing what you’re supposed to do, he's going to let you know — which is good. I just think it's good to have that leadership."
Offensive lineman Troy Fautanu said via 93.7 The Fan that he found out about Rodgers on social media, stating that they "all found out on Instagram" from a post from Pat McAfee.
So, Rodgers' return wasn't necessarily a surprise, but his teammates weren't 100% sure of if or when it would happen. Now, they have some normalcy on the field, and that should help this team get ready for next season.
