Browns reporters have strong reactions to latest Myles Garrett trade rumors after Todd Monken comments

The fact that first-year Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken confirmed earlier this week that he still has not had any face-to-face interactions with star pass-rusher Myles Garrett sparked renewed conversations about whether or not Garrett wants to be traded this offseason.

While ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler insisted on Thursday that he is "operating as if that is put to bed and" Garrett will not be traded this spring or summer, multiple Cleveland media personalities seem to agree with NFL executives who think the 30-year-old is sending a message by skipping voluntary workouts.

During the latest edition of the "Orange and Brown Talk Podcast," Browns beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer mentioned that Garrett staying away from the team for this portion of the offseason program is nothing new.

Myles Garrett is just "being Myles" while staying away from the Browns?

"Myles is off in far-flung places," Cabot explained. "Myles is just being Myles this offseason. This is what he does."

Before Garrett signed a four-year, $160M extension to stay with the Browns last offseason, he made it known he wanted to join an advertised championship contender. As of Friday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Browns as +15000 betting underdogs to win Super Bowl LXI in February 2027. Only the New York Jets (+20000), Miami Dolphins (+30000) and Arizona Cardinals (+40000) had worse odds at that time.

Todd Monken needs to get used to Myles Garrett questions

Back in April, Monken first revealed that he had not yet spoken in person with Garrett. Monken then seemed a bit annoyed when he offered a one-word answer ("no") after he was asked on Wednesday if he had seen Garrett at the team's facility this spring.

Dan Labbe of the Plain Dealer noted during the podcast that Monken is still learning how to serve as a first-time head coach at the highest level.

"This is just Todd Monken getting tired of being asked if he’s talked to Myles Garrett," Labbe said about the coach's latest response to a Garrett-related question. "Because the answer’s the same as it was a week ago, a month ago. Like, it’s the same, and he’s tired of saying it."

The reporters indicated that Garrett's whereabouts will be a non-story unless he doesn't report for the first day of mandatory minicamp on June 9. As of the Friday before Memorial Day, Garrett had not publicly confirmed or denied whether he plans to be in Cleveland on that Tuesday.
