For any quarterback in the NFL, the endgame is the same: get to the Super Bowl. Pittsburgh Steelers signal-caller Aaron Rodgers is no different. He surely came back to the team for one more season with the goal of getting back to that big game in mind.
Now, Rodgers has one more reason to want a Super Bowl win. This one is interesting, too.
In a Tuesday, May 26 feature, John Breech of CBS Sports shares one thing that could make Rodgers really want to win a Super Bowl this year: It's the only way he'll be able to beat the one remaining team in the NFL that he's never beaten.
In the piece, Breech points out that of the 32 teams in the NFL, the only one Rodgers has never beaten is the Green Bay Packers. That makes sense, because he was with the Packers for most of his career.
If he wants to retire saying that he's beaten literally every team in the league, he has to make it to the Super Bowl. Why? It's because the Steelers and Packers don't play each other during the 2026 regular season, and since the Steelers are in the AFC and Packers are in the NFC, the only way these two franchises will see each other would be at the big game.
So, if the Packers and Steelers come up against each other in the Super Bowl, the game will take on extra meaning. It goes beyond Rodgers, too.
"If that happens, Rodgers would have a chance to go out by beating his former team in the ultimate revenge game. It wouldn't just be a revenge game for Rodgers, either," Breech states. "The Steelers also hired Mike McCarthy, making it a revenge game for him as well. McCarthy spent 13 seasons as Green Bay's head coach before the team fired him in 2018."
For Pittsburgh, it would be sweet just to get back to the big game without this revenge in mind. But, for Rodgers and McCarthy, it would be even sweeter against the Packers.
