Kalen DeBoer knows that the annual Iron Bowl game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers is a big deal.
New Auburn head coach Alex Golesh apparently also understands that as well, and he's earned a hat-tip from his biggest rival's head coach in the process.
It was noted at an Auburn spring practice that Golesh, who was at South Florida from 2023 to 2025, dedicated an entire session of practice to preparing for the Iron Bowl.
Golesh won't coach in that game until Nov. 28, but he's already trying to get his team ready for the atmosphere at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Part of that prep included blaring the song “Dixieland Delight” during this special practice period. Sung by the band Alabama, this song is always played at Bryant-Denny between the third and fourth quarters.

Auburn has lost the last six Iron Bowl contests, so this is clearly a ploy by Golesh to get his players locked in — even months ahead of time.
While some may question its effectiveness, it's noteworthy that DeBoer is not one of Golesh's detractors in that regard.
“I think a lot of teams do different things (at practice). I know when we get ready for a team during the week, we play the songs that we’re going to be hearing when we go into those stadiums, it kind of gets the guys in that mindset,” DeBoer told reporters on Tuesday (h/t On3). “It’s an important game, so you have to figure out (how to best prepare for it). Each team has different ways, and each program has different ways of making sure it’s emphasized.”

Alabama is 52-37-1 all-time against Auburn, and the Tide have won 10 out of the last 12 games.
Part of Golesh's task on the Plains will be getting the Tigers back on the right track against their in-state rival, so you can't blame him for pulling every rabbit out of his bag of tricks, even this early on.
“I absolutely can’t wait to be a part of, to be back to being a part of, rivalries like that," Golesh said when he was introduced as Auburn's next head coach. "If you’re any sort of a competitor, if you’re in this game, that’s what you live for. We’ll be ready to rock."
